Heritage tourism is travel designed to experience the places and activities that authentically represent the stories and people of the past. Each year, thousands of tourists from around the world visit Philadelphia's numerous historic sites and attractions to step back in time to the life of a different age. The four historic house museums of The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks have become integral components of the heritage tourism experience in historic Philadelphia, offering over 15,000 visitors a year distinctive opportunities to discover the social history and cultural heritage of this historic city.

Landmarks also plays a crucial role in the tourism economy of Southeastern Pennsylvania throughout its sponsorship of the Landmarks Elderhostel Program

Landmarks Elderhostel is part of the national Elderhostel network whose mission is to provide educational travel adventures for adults over fifty-five. Within the Elderhostel network,
Philadelphia ranks 20th out of 638 sponsors. On average, over 70 Elderhostel programs are conducted in the Greater Philadelphia Region, attracting approximately 2,000 visitors to the Philadelphia region each year. The duration of the programs are 6 days-5 nights, 4 days-3 nights, and 3 days-2 nights.

Elderhostel programs are thematically designed to educate participants about the vast cultural resources in the region. The general topics of history, art, and music lead participants to field excursions in
Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery and Chester counties, as well as Delaware and New Jersey. Landmarks Elderhostel recently assumed the role of sponsor for the Elderhostel programs held at Valley Forge National Park, and Landmarks Elderhostel partners with Pittsburgh and New York City to provide joint programs in both major cities. Landmarks is also one of the largest subscribers to the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philadelphia Flower Show, the Barnes Foundation, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art just to name a few.
